A
few years ago, I spent an unforgettable week fasting and meditating
under the guidance of my old friend and
fellow Yerevan artist, Achot Achot. It was an experience that
not only transformed me physically, leading me out of health
problems related to a personal dilemma, but awakened me spiritually.
This transformative experience has been with me ever since, particularly
in my paintings.
I
strive to recreate, through painting, the insight that I gained
then: that the visible
and invisible,
the tangible and intangible,
the material and the spiritual are, ultimately, interconnected.
When I pick up a brush now, and relax my mind, the brush seems
to "take over," leaving me to humbly accept what it
reveals before my eyes.
Now, whenever the sunlight illuminates my canvas, I sense both
an invitation as well as a desire to become part of it.
